Treatment Guidelines

All the details to best prepare + care for your treatment before and after. Please take time to thoroughly read over these guidelines to ensure a safe, effective treatment.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    - Avoid sun and UV exposure as much as possible 7 days before your treatment.

    - It is recommended to delay use of Tretinoin, Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac Avage, EpiDuo, Ziana, skin lightening ingredients, Bleaching creams, Hydroquinone and Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids. Please consult your physician before discontinuing use of any prescription medications.

    - It is recommended to discontinue use of topical over-the-counter medications, any exfoliating products, or ingredients such as scrubs, loofah brushes, washcloths, clarisonic devices, facial masks, salicylic and glycolic acids, benzoyl peroxide, and retinoids.

    - It is recommended to discontinue and/or postpone all forms of hair removal of the area to be treated. This is including but not limited to; Electrolysis, tweezing, waxing, Depilatory Creams, Laser Hair removal and shaving.

    -If you have received neurotoxin or filler injections or any other cosmetic treatments in the last two weeks, this treatment cannot be performed.

    - Active eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis is not ideal for facial treatments. Consult with a dermatologist or schedule a skin consultation to better asses if you're a candidate for a facial treatment.

    - If pregnant, nursing, or trying for pregnancy, please make your Skincare Specialist aware at the appointment time to ensure all non-recommended products & tools are left out of your treatment for your safety.

    - Treatment may be postponed if any of the previous reasons will interfere with recommended treatment.

    POST TREATMENT

    -It is recommended to skip exercise and makeup for the rest of the day. Your skin has been intensively treated and prepped with some amazing products- it's best to give your skin a rest day and give the skin time to get the best results out of your treatment. If exercise or makeup is necessary, please be aware there is a chance the skin could have a reaction to excess heat, sweating, and other pores clogging factors.

    -Avoid any exfoliants for several days after your treatment. Please ask your Skincare Specialist for specific directions on when you can return to using at home exfoliants.

    -To maintain the best results, facials are recommended every 4-6 weeks. Check out our membership program on great deals for monthly treatments!

  • PRE TREATMENT

    -If you're currently on or have been on Accutane in the last year, this treatment cannot be performed.

    -If you have any open lesions, active cold sores, dermatitis or irritation in the treatment area, this treatment cannot be performed.

    -If you are pregnant or nursing, this treatment is not recommended. Please consult with your doctor otherwise.

    -If you have received neurotoxin or filler injections or any other cosmetic treatments in the last two weeks, this treatment cannot be performed.

    -7 days before treatment, please avoid the following:

    -Hair removal in the treatment area (waxing, electrolysis, laser, shaving)

    -Stop any products containing retinoids, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Beta-Hydroxy Acids, or benzoyl peroxide

    -Stop any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating

    -Avoid excess sun exposure or UV rays

    -Drink plenty of water before your treatment

    -Regular use of a Tyrosinase inhibitor at home is highly recommended before and throughout treatment. Eventone Correcting Serum by Skinbetter, retailed at Lumi Skin Bar is our most recommended.

    POST TREATMENT

    -Each treatment may vary. Please follow any specific post care given by your Skincare Specialist.

    -Keep your skincare simple for the next 5-7 days. Use a gentle cleanser, avoid active ingredients in all skincare products including serums, moisturize, and WEAR SPF (always please!)

    -Avoid heat and sun exposure. Avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks post treatment. If you need to be outdoors, make sure to use an umbrella, wear a large brimmed hat, sunglasses, use a Physical SPF (Eclipse by iS Clinical and Tonesmart by Skinbetter are our recommendations). Apply SPF 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 80 minutes for proper sun protection

    -Redness, flaking, dry texture, peeling, sensitivity, etc. can occur and are normal if they occur. If they do not, that is also normal. Everyone reacts different to chemical peels. 


    -Possible side effects include: mild to extreme redness, temporary tightness, itching, swelling, dryness similar to a sunburn or windburn. If these occur, they usually subside in 24-48 hours.

    - Do NOT use any active products such as retinoids, tretinoin, acne medications (consult with your prescriber), Tazorac, Differin, AHAs (glycolic, lactic, etc.), BHAs (salicylic, etc.), benzoyl peroxide, lightening agents such as Hydroquinone, any exfoliating products like scrubs, loofahs, at home dermashaving for 2 week post treatment if sensitivity occurs.

    -Do NOT pick or remove any shedding skin from the face if peeling or flaking occurs. This can cause hyperpigmentation and scarring.

    -Do NOT undergo any laser resurfacing, electrolysis, facial or cosmetic services such as IPL on treated areas for at least 4 weeks post treatment.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    -The following are contraindications of microneedling and the treatment cannot be performed:

    Pregnancy or nursing (consult with your doctor), active acne, active skin cancer or have had chemotherapy in the last 6 months, open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area, active bacterial, fungal, or viral infections in the treatment area or any medications to treat them, Hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorders (please consult with your primary care doctor), allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics such as Lidocaine, currently taking acne medication (must be off Accutane or isotretinoins for at least 6 months)

    -Please discontinue any exfoliating agents (retinoids, tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs, BHAs, astringents, etc.) 24 hours before treatment.

    POST TREATMENT

    To make the most out of your treatment, please follow our post-treatment instructions.

    -For 24 hours, do NOT apply anything to the skin except the take home gel we provide you (or anything your Skincare Specialist has specifically approved).

    -Treat the area like an open wound, you do not want to touch the skin with hands, water, others, animals, towels, sheets, etc. that aren't as clean as possible. Avoid touching the treated area.

    -For 5-7 days post treatment, keep a simple routine. Use a gentle cleanser, avoid active ingredients such as serums, moisturize and wear SPF (always!). Products approved by Skincare Specialist are an exception.

    -Avoid excessive snd sun exposure 3 days post treatment.

    -Flaking, tightness, redness, sensitivity, and peeling can occur post treatment. This is normal and may vary person to person and treatment to treatment.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    Schedule your appointment at least 3-5 days prior to a special event. Redness and sensitivity may be apparent in that time period.

    This treatment may not be appropriate if any of the following conditions apply:

    Active cold sores, history of cold sores, active rashes in the treatment area, use of Accutane currently or in the last 6 months, laser procedures and waxing in the treatment area in the last 7 days, Use of retinoids in the last 24 hours, pregnancy (clearance from your OB/GYN needed)

    POST TREATMENT

    Redness or sensitivity may occur for up to 24 hours after treatment.

    Avoid washing face for 6 hours post treatment. Retinoids or topical exfoliants may be resumed 1 day post treatment

    Avoid exercise or sweating for 24 hours post treatment. Avoid sun exposure or tanning. When exposed to sun, reapply 30+ SPF every 80 minutes.

    Book your next treatment in 4-6 weeks to maximize results. Recommended to receive 4-6 treatments in a series every 4 weeks.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    Avoid the following 7 days before treatment:

    Waxing

    Depilatory Creams

    Laser Hair Removal

    Patients who have had BOTOX® injections should wait until full effect of their treatment is seen before receiving this treatment.

    Avoid the following 72 hours before treatment:

    Any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating

    Patients who have had medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures (e.g. laser therapy, surgical procedures, cosmetic filler, microdermabrasion, etc) should wait until skin sensitivity completely resolves before receiving this treatment.

    Any products containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), or benzoyl peroxide

    POST TREATMENT

    Day 1: Apply Moisturizing Face Cream for Dry Skin at night or earlier to help with dryness. The amount should be a fingerprint size (not a pea size) and be massaged into the skin until absorbed.

    Day 2 and Beyond:

    AM: Apply Moisturizing Face Cream for Dry Skin. Apply SPF.

    PM: Apply Facial Smoothing Fluid starting the evening after, wait 30 minutes, and apply Moisturizing Face Cream for Dry Skin.

    Do not use any other products during your course of treatment. A gentle cleanser, SPF, and makeup are acceptable.

    You may resume your regular skincare regimen 7 days after your last session.

    Possible side effects

    Intense flaking: this can occur after the first session of application on patients with a very thick stratum corneum and may last 2-3 days. Apply Moisturizing Face Cream for Dry Skin several times a day.

    Dryness: Apply Moisturizing Face Cream for Dry Skin more frequently.

    Appearance of darker patches in the 2 days following application: these are thicker areas of skin drying up and will disappear through natural exfoliation in a few days.

    *Contact your provider if you experience any uncommon side effects.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

    Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.

    Schedule your dermal filler and neurotoxin appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Results from the injections will take approximately 4 to 7 days to appear. Also bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.

    Discontinue retinol 2 days before and 2 days after treatment.

    Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area.

    If you have a history of cold sores please let your provider know, they may put you on an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.

    Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

    You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

    POST TREATMENT

    Please be sure to follow these after care instructions if you have recently received a neuromodulator injection:

    Do not lay down for at least 4 hours

    Do not bend all the way over to pick something up for at least 4 hours ▪ Do not wear a hat for 24 hours

    No exercise for 24 hours

    Schedule a recheck for 2 weeks after your treatment if needed

    It can take up to 14 days to see the full results

  • PRE TREATMENT

    Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

    Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

    You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

    POST TREATMENT

    Immediately after the treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a day or two. If the inconvenience continues or if other reactions occur, please contact the practice.

    Apply an ice pack to the treated area, this will reduce the initial swelling.

    If you are having lip treatment the initial swelling may last longer. It can last for about a week and the lips may look somewhat uneven during this time, therefore, the result directly after this treatment should not be seen as the final result.

    Avoid touching the treated area within 6 hours following treatment. After that, light make-up can be applied and the area can be gently washed with soap and water.

    Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (eg. Solarium and Sunbathing) or extreme cold.

    If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores.

    If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    -At least 2 weeks hair growth is necessary for waxing to be performed. If there is not enough hair growth, we may need to reschedule your treatment. 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch hair growth is needed at the minimum. (This applies for body waxing)

    -We recommend coming dress in loose, flowy clothing for body waxing treatments. Freshly waxed skin will always be more sensitive so wearing breathable materials like cotton is ideal. (This applies for body waxing)

    -Please allow 48 hours "recovery time" before any important occasions. This will allow the skin to recover and avoid any sensitivities or histamine reactions as freshly waxed skin will always be more sensitive.

    -Refrain from sun exposure or UV exposure for at least 24 hours before your treatment.

    -If you are currently on or have been on Accutane in the 6 months, this treatment cannot be performed. In accommodation, facial threading can be substituted.

    -If you are currently on any of the following, this treatment cannot be performed:

    -Accutane

    -Antibiotics

    -Clindamycin

    -Doxycycline

    -Erythromycin

    -Isotretinoin

    -Madifloxicine

    -Metronidazole

    -Minocycline

    -Tasarotene

    -Tetracycline

    Refrain from using the following for 7 days before treatment:

    -Retinoids (retinol, retinol-a, tretinoin, etc.)

    -Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Beta-Hydroxy Acids, benzoyl peroxide

    -Any harsh exfoliants (physical or chemical)

    POST TREATMENT

    To make the most out of your treatment, please follow our post-treatment instructions.

    -Avoid heat (saunas, baths, hot tubs, steam), restrictive clothing, and friction for 24 hours after you treatment.

    -Avoid sun exposure or UV exposure for 24 hours after your treatment. Spray tanning with us is okay!

    -Avoid putting fragranced products to treatment area (perfume, fragranced lotions, anti-perspirants, hygiene products). We have suggested products to use post wax that our Waxing Specialist is happy to recommend to you.

    -Avoid harsh exfoliants in the area 24 hours after you treatment. If you are prone to ingrowns, gently exfoliate treatment area the following day using a gentle silicon exfoliator or a recommended product from you Wax Specialist.

    -Pinkness, warmth, and tenderness are normal post waxing and usually subside within hours or by the following day.

    -For best results, repeat your waxing treatment every 4-6 weeks, depending on your hair growth rate.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    -For best results, we recommend getting your spray tan 2 days before any special events. We offer overnight setting spray solutions to express solutions so options are available for 'downtime'.

    -We recommend exfoliating (including shaving) & moisturizing 12-48 hours before your appointment. Using a a body scrub to remove dead skin or any previous tan and following up with a non-alcohol and oil free moisturizer will prep the skin properly

    -Day of appointment, do not apply any moisturizers, oils, or barriers to the skin. If wearing deodrant day of, please remove before appointment or ask your Spray Tan Tech for a baby wipe to remove.

    -Loose clothing is recommended to avoid any flaws in the tan as well as the spray tan superficial bronzer from transferring. If this gets on your clothes, no worries- it washes out!

    POST TREATMENT

    -Hold the water! Your tech will give you specific instructions on when to rinse, avoid water for the amount of time they specify.

    -When rinsing your tan, rinse for about 45 seconds with no soap. This is to stop the tanning process and remove the superficial bronzer so you will see color come off- this is normal!

    -Avoid exfoliating. This will remove the tan.

    -Moisturize you tan with an alcohol and oil free moisturizer to get the most life out of your tan.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    One week prior to treatment

    - Stop taking NSAID medicines such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen since they interfere

    with normal blood clotting. Check medication labels for the active ingredient.

    - You may take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) as needed for pain not to exceed 3000 mg a day.

    Three days prior to treatment:

    - Discontinue any irritant type topical products or treatments:

    -Products such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula), scrubs or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare. Treatments such as microdermabrasion and laser.

    - No prolonged sun exposure, to the area being treated

    - A treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin

    Day of treatment:

    -Shower as usual

    -Do not apply any lotion, powder, oils or other products to treatment areas

    - If face/neck being treated:

    - Cleanse your face/neck and do not apply makeup

    -If you have long hair bring a hair band to pull it back

    -Take 1000mg Tylenol (acetaminophen) 30 minutes prior to scheduled appointment

    What can be expected?

    -Immediately after your treatment, you will look and feel like you have a moderate sunburn

    - Skin may feel warm and tighter than usual

    -Skin may crust and peel for 3-7 days after treatment

    - Redness and swelling may last for 3-4 days

    POST TREATMENT

    -CLEAN – Use a soothing cleanser or face wash with lukewarm water to cleanse the face and gently pat dry the treated skin until it heals. Always make sure that your hands are clean when touching the treated area.

    -HYDRATE – Use a gentle moisturizer or healing ointment on the treatment area until skin heals.

    - MAKEUP – Can be applied 2 days after the treatment. Clean makeup brushes prior to using.

    - PROTECT – At 24 hours after the procedure, you should apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a SPF30, AT ALL TIMES when you will be outside. Use a physical sunscreen (Zinc/Titanium Dioxide) daily. Do not use chemical sunscreens (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate).

    - Reapply often→In addition to reducing your future risk of skin cancer, sunscreens also reduce wrinkles and slow the aging process.

    What to avoid:

    To ensure the proper healing environment, be certain to observe the following:

    - For at least 48 hours post treatment, do NOT use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.

    - Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for at least 24 hours. No tanning beds.

    - Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

    - No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

  • PRE TREATMENT

    - Avoid any type of tanning 3-4 weeks prior to treatment. Sunscreen is advisable when outdoors during daylight hours.

    -Discontinue any irritant topical agents for 2-3 days prior to treatment (AHA, BHA, Retinoids).

    -Avoid anticoagulants for 7-10 days prior to treatment, if medically permitted.

    -Arrive for treatment with clean skin. There should be no lotion, make-up, perfume, powder or bath/shower oil present on the skin in the area to be treated.

    POST TREATMENT

    - Sun block should be used for 3 weeks following the treatment.

    -Moisturizer may be applied after each treatment.

    - Make-up may be applied immediately after the treatment.

    - Pigmented and/or vascular lesions may darken prior to improving.
